Verna (Reimer) Ochsner was born in a sod house, just south of Zeeland, ND, on August 9th, 1925.  Verna was born as the second of five children to Ed C. and Pauline (Kiepke) Reimer.  As a result of the Great Depression economy, Verna attended high school in Roscoe, SD, boarding with her aunt, and graduated at age sixteen.  Upon graduation, she attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen receiving her teachers’ certificate.  Verna taught in a one room school house in rural Herried, SD.  She met Ruben, just out of the Navy, got engaged at the Mobridge Sitting Bull Stampede rodeo, and they were married October 6th,1946.  They farmed near Herried, SD.

In 1949 they relocated to a farm south of Ipswich, SD where they lived until retirement in 1986.  Verna enjoyed and participated in all aspects of the farm work: milking cows, driving equipment, gardening, and general farm labor.  As a faithful Christian, Verna was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church leading Sunday School classes for many years, and always actively participating in the Ladies’ Aid.  She actively supported all family activities including school activities, sports, and 4-H.  Verna loved social gatherings such as family reunions and church functions.

Survivors include five sons: Allan (Shelley) Ochsner, Aberdeen, SD; Larry (Becky) Ochsner, Ft. Worth, TX; Ray (Denise) Ochsner, Fargo, ND; Rod (Lynette) Ochsner, Watertown, SD; Chuck (Roxanne) Ochsner, Las Vegas, NV; and one daughter, Lori Boettcher, Ipswich, SD, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
