Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Pembrook Colony. Visitation will be in her home at the colony starting at 2:00 PM Wednesday.
Maria was born to Michael and Anna Decker at Barrickman Colony, Manitoba, Canada. Her family moved to Tschetter Colony in South Dakota in 1941.
She married David Hofer in 1946 at Tschetter where they lived until they moved to Pembrook Colony in 1974. She was a head cook and Kleineschul Ankela and was very diligent at her colony work, a good example, and strong pillar in the community.
She had a generous heart and engaging personality. You could stop in at any time and find her singing or knitting slippers. Gramma served the community faithfully and enjoyed the work bestowed upon her. There are no words to describe what she means to us.
