Verna Hanson

Grave side services for Verna I. Hanson, 94, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Ipswich City Cemetery.

Verna was born February 4, 1915 near Ipswich to John W. "Jack" and Laura (Jenkins) Hodson. She was raised on a farm south of Ipswich. She graduated from Ipswich High School and then from Chadron State College in Nebraska.

She married Leonard "Swede" Hanson on June 14, 1938 in Ipswich. They made their home in Chadron where Leonard taught school. She and Leonard dedicated themselves to education. They lived and worked as educators and administrators in Osceola, NE, Ogallala, NE, York, NE and finally in Omaha, NE.

They remained in Omaha following Swede's retirement. He died in 1990. In 2006, Verna moved to the Denver, CO area to be closer to family. She died July 31, 2009 in a Wheat Ridge, CO hospital.

She is survived by her son, John (Emma) Hanson of Wheat Ridge, CO, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one brother, Les, of Carmel, NY.

Her husband; one daughter, Carol; and one brother, Vern Hodson, preceded her in death.
