Duane Perrion

November 3, 1939 — December 22, 2015

Mass of Christian Burial for Duane L. "Swede" Perrion, 76, of Ipswich, is 10:30 AM Monday, December 28, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich. Interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Sunday at Holy Cross with a Liturgical Wake service at 4:00 PM.

Duane was born November 3, 1939 to Daniel and Stella (Beecher) Perrion on a farm in Edmunds County, SD. He attended country school for his elementary education and then went to Ipswich High School, where he graduated in 1958.

He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Peterson, on August 24, 1959. They made their home on a farm and started their family. The family would grow to include five children; Brenda, Bruce, David, Douglas and Cara.

Duane had a passion for farming and the outdoors life. He had a real zest for living and sharing with others. He could be found in his workshop tinkering on things for family and friends and creating welding projects for many to enjoy. He expressed his creative side through photography (which he entered in many area photo contests), making wine, his yard work, gardening and planting of trees. He devoted much of his time into improving the golf course in Ipswich, where he was instrumental in developing grass greens and created the Split Rock Country Club sign, so that future generations could enjoy the game at a first class course.

Duane was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Split Rock Country Club.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Jan; sons, Bruce Perrion of Ipswich, David (Barb) Perrion of Sioux Falls and Douglas (Janice) Perrion of Ipswich; daughters, Brenda (Scott) Oster of Custer and Cara (John) Romeo of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Nicholas Oster, Christopher Oster, Nathan (Katrena) Perrion, Jacob Perrion, Morgen Perrion, Dylan Perrion, and Kayla Perrion as well as two great-grandsons, Cohen Perrion and Nolan Rodriguez. He is also survived by a brother, Donald (Pat Gisi) Perrion of Ipswich and a sister, Jeanne Perrion of Burnsville, MN.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ted.

Duane passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
